The Office of Congresswoman Scanlon is currently accepting applications for the following FALL internship opportunities.

Fall Digital/Press Internship

Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, Pennsylvania democrat, is looking to hire an intern with a passion for news and social media for the 2019 fall semester.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this position is rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in journalism, public relations, or communications; Applicants must have previous press internship experience, or have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Writing for a university newspaper/publication
  • Anchoring/producing a student-run news program
  • Produced social media or editorial content for an organization/group

Duties:
Congresswoman Scanlon has a robust, creative, and responsive online media presence. From breaking news and communicating complex policy, to writing op-eds for national and local publications, the Congresswoman is always communicating with her constituents and the general public. Every day is different on the Hill, but a successful applicant can expect to:

  • Work directly with the Communications Director
  • Write press releases
  • Develop social media copy
  • Assist with planning press conferences and general media outreach
  • Learn social media, issue advocacy, and general communications strategy

Fall Legislative Internship (DC) 

Internships are available in Congresswoman Scanlon’s Washington, DC office for the Fall session for college students and recent graduates.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Constituent correspondence
  • Leading tours of the Capitol
  • Drafting constituent correspondence
  • Researching legislative issues 

DC based interns will have the opportunity to attend hearings and briefings. 

Ideal applicants will be motivated team players with strong communication skills and have a demonstrated interest in government and public service. 

Generally, internship hours run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on days that Congress is in session and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on days when Congress is not. Hours and start dates can be adjusted to accommodate class schedules.

Fall Constituent Services Internship (District Office)

Internships are available in Congresswoman Scanlon’s district office, located in East Lansdowne, PA, for the Fall session for college students and recent graduates.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Constituent correspondence
  • Researching legislative issues
  • Assisting with casework

District based interns will have the opportunity to attend events and meetings.

Ideal applicants will be motivated team players with strong communication skills and have a demonstrated interest in government and public service.

Generally, internship hours run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours and start dates can be adjusted to accommodate class schedules.
