Congresswoman Scanlon Doubles Help for Pennsylvania Families to Cover Energy Costs This Winter

Chester, PACongresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) today highlighted a new report from the White House outlining how she and fellow Democrats in Congress delivered more than double the annual investment to help Pennsylvania families afford their energy costs. In total, Rep. Scanlon helped secure $480.5 million for Pennsylvania through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the American Rescue Plan and annual appropriations. As Americans continue to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and high energy costs, Pennsylvania families and seniors are able to use these investments to lower the costs of staying warm this winter, cover utilities, and pay for energy repairs.

“The $480.5 million secured for Pennsylvania this year is the highest amount our Commonwealth has ever received in LIHEAP funding to help families struggling with the costs of home heating,” said Rep. Scanlon. “As hardworking Pennsylvanians continue recovering from the pandemic, this investment is helping families afford energy costs and stay warm, safe, and healthy this winter.”

Local families who need assistance should contact the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to begin the application process.
