Scanlon Announces Winner of 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District

Chester, PA Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) is proud to announce Zayne Foster, a 12th grader at Upper Darby High School, as the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District. His piece, “Solace,” will be sent to Washington D.C. to hang in the Capitol for one year.

“Art is a powerful platform for free expression and can be a moving source of hope or inspiration, which is why I am thrilled to have this opportunity each year to view our community through the eyes of our students,” said Rep. Scanlon. “Once again this year, I was overwhelmed by the creativity and honesty these incredible young artists poured into their work. I’m thrilled Zayne’s artwork will represent PA-05 alongside hundreds of other pieces from around the country at the Capitol for visitors to view throughout the year.”

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,00 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.

“I want to thank the teachers who worked with us to spread the word about this opportunity to their students,” Scanlon continued. “I also want to extend a special thanks to our art competition judges Jeanne Komp, Chenlin Cai, Matthew Sepielli, Glenn Holmstrom, and Nancy Markezin for their expertise.”
