Congresswoman Scanlon Sworn Into 116th Congress

Today, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon was sworn into office as the representative for Pennsylvania’s newly drawn 5th Congressional District.

Today, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon was sworn into office as the representative for Pennsylvania’s newly drawn 5th Congressional District. 

“Today, we made history. Voters across the country and across the Commonwealth have placed their faith in us, the new Congress, to restore the balance of power in our government and return the government to the people,” Congresswoman Scanlon said. “I am honored to serve the families of Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional district and am eager to get to work with our most diverse Congress in our nation’s history.

Congresswoman Scanlon was joined today by her family, friends, and constituents as she began her new term. She was previously sworn in on November 13, 2018 to complete the term for Pennsylvania’s old 7th district.

Since taking the oath in November, Congresswoman Scanlon has introduced her first bill, the Inaugural Fund Integrity Act, signed on as a co-sponsor to a dozen pieces of legislation, including H.R.1. – the government reform package, and has joined several caucuses, including the Equality Caucus and the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Prior to serving in Congress, Congresswoman Scanlon represented women, children, low-income families, immigrants, seniors, and veterans as a public interest attorney for more than 30 years. Her previous elected office experience includes serving as an elected member and president of her local school board.
