Scanlon Statement on House Passage of Resolution Expressing Congressional Support of Israel

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) today issued the following statement regarding her “YES” vote on H.Con.Res. 57 – Expressing the sense of Congress supporting the State of Israel.

“For decades and on a bipartisan basis, the House and our country have strongly supported the shared values underpinning the US-Israel relationship while promoting efforts to provide both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples with security, dignity, and rights through a negotiated resolution of the conflict. But once again, important, sensitive issues related to Israel and antisemitism have been turned into partisan political footballs. House leadership’s decision to force a vote on a resolution as an exercise in partisan point scoring is deeply inappropriate and damaging to the US-Israel relationship. I urge all my colleagues to stand up for the democratic values at the heart of the US-Israel relationship that are currently under attack. Israelis and Palestinians face real challenges and threats. They deserve more from US leaders than political grandstanding.”
