Congresswoman Scanlon Votes to Avert a Government Shutdown and Protect Families in PA-05

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) issued the following statement after House Democrats voted to avert a lapse in federal funding and resulting shutdown: “Once again, Democrats have proven to be the party of governing — committed to putting the American people first. For months, House Democrats have insisted on passing a clean government spending bill, free from draconian cuts to essential services. I am proud that this insistence resulted in Congress today preventing a catastrophic federal government shutdown. The recklessness with which the House Republican Majority approached this entire process created unnecessary chaos and that should not be forgotten. My constituents deserve better, and that’s why I voted to pass this short term government spending bill to keep the federal government open. Our work is far from done. I look forward to passing additional assistance for our allies in Ukraine, which Republicans insisted on stripping from today’s bill, as we continue the appropriations process. House Democrats will continue to fight for our allies abroad while ensuring critical government programs at home are preserved for the American people.” ### |
