Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) today released the following statement after House Republicans voted to endorse a widely discredited impeachment inquiry:

“There is so much work that Congress should be doing for the American people, but House Republicans have wasted the past year investigating President Biden and his family. Although the President, his administration, and his family have produced tens of thousands of documents and dozens of hours of witness testimony – Republicans cannot point to any evidence of wrongdoing by the President. Republicans’ own witnesses and documents have embarrassed them over and over again by debunking their ridiculous allegations.

“Rather than accepting the facts and getting back to work for the American people, House Republicans have invented claims of ‘obstruction’ and ‘stonewalling’ in order to justify their continued attempt to smear President Biden with their illegitimate impeachment inquiry. This is pure political theater.

“Congress should be working to lower costs and protect our national security. But House Republicans would rather play games with our Constitution. Having done nothing all year to meet urgent needs at home and around the world, they now are leaving town for the holidays.”
