Congresswoman Scanlon Delivers NDAA Win to Save Jobs

Today, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon delivered a big win for jobs in Pennsylvania’s fifth district with the House of Representatives’ passage of the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“This version of the NDAA reinforces what so many of us in our district know -- that fully funding the production of the Chinook is not only critical to our national security but safeguards thousands of jobs right here at home,” Congresswoman Scanlon said.

This win comes on the heels of the House passing the FY20 Defense Appropriations Bill, which provided $28 million in Advanced Procurement funding for the Chinooks and language that directs the Army to continue this vital program.

The 2020 NDAA also addresses various challenges impacting our country and our armed forces, including: efforts to address climate change, a pay raise for service members, protections for military and low-income service members by improving SNAP assistance, upgrades to military housing and child care support, and the codifying of non-discrimination protections in the military that would end the ban on transgender military service.

The next step is for both chambers to conference and develop a final version of the NDAA, which will be voted on again before heading to the President’s desk for final signature.
