Congresswoman Scanlon Responds to Racist Text Messages Targeting Black Americans Following the 2024 Election
Washington,
November 8, 2024
Chester, PA - Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) today released the following statement in response to racist text messages sent to Black people nationwide: “We should all be disturbed by the vile, racist text messages targeting young Black people across our nation, including school children right here in Lower Merion and Upper Darby. These contemptible efforts to sow fear and division must be condemned by all who understand that civility and respect for our fellow Americans, and above all care for the welfare of our children, are fundamental to our national well-being. I commend our school officials, the FBI, and law enforcement for taking these threats seriously and investigating their origins. This hateful rhetoric should have no place in our country. We must stand united against hate and extremism in order to secure a future for our children built upon respect, equality, and justice for all.” ###
