Congresswoman Scanlon Votes to Invest in Pennsylvania Families, Economy with Government Funding Package

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) today voted to pass a package of government funding legislation for the Fiscal Year 2023 focused on meeting the needs of American families. The historic investments in the legislation will lower the cost of living, create good-paying American jobs, lift up working families, and support small businesses. Funding secured by Rep. Scanlon for nine community projects will directly benefit PA-05 residents.

The government funding package secures critical investments in a wide array of key Pennsylvania priorities, including upgrading aging infrastructure, investing in VA care, strengthening local resilience against extreme weather, investing in federal nutrition programs, expanding affordable housing, and more.

“Our government should work for hardworking people, which is why I’m proud to support this historic investment in American families that will create good-paying jobs, grow paychecks, and bring down kitchen table costs,” said Rep. Scanlon. “By giving American working families the lifeline they need, the legislation addresses some of the most urgent challenges facing our nation, including combating the climate crisis, strengthening America’s food supply, or caring for our veterans. With this legislation, the House Democrats take a bold step in our fight to advance health, opportunity, and security for all of America’s hard-working families.”

Rep. Scanlon championed funding for the following nine projects that will directly benefit PA-05 residents:

  • $2,000,000 for Senior Community Services Schoolhouse Capital Improvements (Folsom, PA)
  • $2,000,000 for Navy Yard Quay Wall Reconstruction (Philadelphia, PA)
  • $50,000 for Media VFW Post Maintenance (Media, PA)
  • $2,000,000 for Delaware County Food Bank Acquisition and Renovation (Holmes, PA)

  • $1,500,000 for Lansdowne Y Swimming Pool Rehabilitation (Lansdowne, PA)
  • $2,000,000 for The Africa Center (Philadelphia, PA)
  • $850,000 for Access Community Center (Chester, PA)
  • $2,000,000 for Haverford Township Free Library Redevelopment (Havertown, PA)

Rep. Scanlon continued, “I am incredibly pleased to have secured more than $14 million in funding for nine high-quality community projects in this bill that I know will have a profound impact on PA-05. Each of these well-thought-out projects responds directly to one or more of our community’s most pressing needs, and I am proud to continue advocating for federal funding to support them.”

The nine projects listed above are part of the 15 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests Rep. Scanlon secured in the House Appropriations Committee’s Fiscal Year 2023 funding bill. Legislation including the remaining six projects will be up for a vote in the coming months.
