Congresswoman Scanlon Announces Winners of Inaugural Congressional Art Competition

– Today, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon announces the winners of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition, which was open to high school students from Pennsylvania’s fifth district. Over 130 students from 13 schools throughout the district submitted original pieces of artwork, in various mediums, for the competition. Through the support of the Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation, the art pieces were displayed as part of an art show at Utility Works, which was attended by over 100 people. “Our office was overwhelmed with not only the volume of submissions but the talent of the incredible young artists in our district,” Congresswoman Scanlon said. “We are grateful to the countless community volunteers, educators, school administrators, and our judges, Teresa Unseld, Jennifer Hallam, and Emily Owens, who worked with our office to ensure that that our first Congressional Art Competition was a success.” The winners of this year’s Congressional Art Competition include:
Obadiah Lazur’s artwork will be hung in the Capital for one year among the pieces submitted from students across the country. A full list of the winners is included below.
